Welcome to the Stour Choral Society's Website.
Our next concert is on
Saturday 6th December 2008
7:30pm
Frinton Parish Church
The Stour Choral Society celebrates 37 years of choral singing. We aim to provide a stimulating time where good music and friendship co-exist. The society came to fruition through the joining of two church choirs who had previously performed seperately in the area a performance of Stainer's Crucifixion. The first joint concert was held in December 1971 with 65 people singing Part 1 of the Messiah. From early days local and distinguished soloists supported the society and conductors such as Laszlo Heltay and John Fear established the choir's good reputation in the area. This was followed some years later by its connections and joint ventures with the Kantorei in Frankenberg, Germany. Performances have been given in local churches and halls in Manningtree, Mistley, Dedham, East Bergholt, Frinton and Clacton.
General Information:
The Stour Choral Society rehearses in Manningtree Methodist Church, from 7.30pm on Mondays.
We are a large singing group (SATB) who enjoy performing works from a vast choral repertoire including Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Mass in C minor, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Rutter's Magnificat, as well as lighter classical pieces. We have 50 members in the group at present from not only the immediate area of Manningtree, but from further afield as far as Colchester and Frinton.
If you are interested in attending a rehearsal to see whether the choir suits you, or if you wish to come to a concert, we would be delighted to hear from you.
